About Longfire
Stories worth gathering around.
Longfire is named for the feeling I want the show to have: an unhurried conversation around a fire, where a good story can take its time. I grew up listening to stories in the dark before bed, around crowded tables, beside campfires and on fishing boats. This is my attempt to recreate that feeling.
The show follows curiosity rather than a narrow subject. I talk with founders, athletes, fishermen, coaches, writers, brand builders and anyone whose world I want to understand. The conversation might lead through the outdoors, business, sports, fiction, science or somewhere else.
I like the idea that a person should try to know everything about something and something about everything. Real estate is the field I am trying to understand deeply. Longfire is where I pursue the rest.
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with family and friends. I fish, work out, follow college football and read constantly. I am as happy talking about an outdoor business or a real estate deal as I am going down a rabbit hole about Star Wars or Game of Thrones.
I did not start Longfire because I was an expert or because I identified an underserved podcast category. I started it because I was curious and wanted a reason to call interesting people and ask questions I would not otherwise get the opportunity to ask. A mentor eventually gave me the simplest explanation for what I was doing: I was pursuing curiosity.
That is still the honest reason I make the show. It is personal, but I do not want it to be self-indulgent. When someone gives me their time, I owe them preparation, attention and a conversation that represents them well. If someone chooses to listen, I hope they leave with a story, an idea or a new corner of the world they are glad they encountered.
Longfire is a record of what I am learning and of the people generous enough to teach me.
